Gurmar Gymnema sylvestre

Gurmar is a perennial climber that is native to the tropical forests of central and southern India. The leaves of the plant are harvested just before flowering to preserve the medicinal properties contained within this plants leaves.

When chewed, the leaves actually interfere with a person’s ability to taste sweetness which explains the Hindi name of ‘gurmar’ which translates as ‘destroyer of sugar’.
